A Tax Strategy That Will Surprise You

Financial Professional Content Many college students receive scholarships of one sort or another when they go off to college. The nice thing about scholarships, other than reducing the cost of college, is that they are generally tax-free when used to pay tuition and fees, or when used to pay for books, supplies, and equipment required by the curriculum. What most people don't know is that students are sometimes better off claiming their scholarship as taxable income, if permitted to do so. Special considerations come into play for families with 529 plans. Here's how it works. The American Opportunity Tax Credit is a valuable tax incentive for those who qualify: The first $2,000 of tuition and related expenses comes back dollar-for-dollar as a tax credit. Of the next $2,000 of eligible expenses, 25% comes back as a tax credit. That's a maximum credit of $2,500 on $4,000 in eligible expenses. Up to 40% of the credit is refundable for qualifying taxpayers with zero tax liability. RELATED: Ask an expert: Can I use 529 plan funds to pay for college and get the American Opportunity Tax Credit? However, some parents may not be able to claim the credit due to the income phase-outs if their income is too high. So instead, they may find it beneficial to push the credit onto the student's tax return. Be careful, though, as a student receiving a tax-free scholarship must reduce tax-credit expenses by the scholarship amount. In some situations, this will actually increase the overall tax burden. The solution in these situations is to claim the scholarship, or some portion of it, as taxable income. If the student is allowed to use the scholarship for room and board, transportation, or other non-qualifying expenses, doing so will create taxable income and avoid the downward adjustment to the American Opportunity Tax Credit. This strategy will also increase the pool of qualified higher education expenses for purposes of withdrawing funds tax-free from a 529 plan. However, that won't usually provide a net tax benefit even if it means avoiding a non-qualified withdrawal from the 529 plan. Remember: the 10% penalty is not assessed under either treatment, since the penalty is waived on non-qualified withdrawals attributable to scholarships. Taxes are complicated, and many of the complications of this particular strategy, including eligibility rules and tax dependency issues, have not been described in this column. Publication 970 from the IRS is most helpful. Your clients should also consult with a qualified tax professional. Fast Facts About Ancient Ephesus

Ephesus, now Selà §uk in modern Turkey,  was one of the most famous cities of the ancient Mediterranean. Founded in the Bronze Age and important from ancient Greek times, it contained the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and served as a crossroads between the East and West for centuries. Home of a Wonder The Temple of Artemis, constructed in the sixth century B.C., contained wondrous sculptures, including the multi-breasted cult statue of the goddess. Other statues there were constructed by the likes of the great sculptor Phidias. The temple was sadly destroyed for the last time by the fifth century A.D., after a man tried to burn it down centuries earlier. Library of Celsus There are visible ruins of a library dedicated to Proconsul Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemeanus, governor of the province of Asia, that housed between 12,000-15,000 scrolls. An earthquake in 262 A.D. dealt a devastating blow to the library, although it wasnt fully destroyed until later. Important Christian Site Ephesus wasnt just an important city for the pagans of antiquity. It also was the site of St. Pauls ministry for years. Cosmopolitan A great city for pagans and Christians alike, Ephesus contained the normal centers of Roman and Greek cities, including a theater that seated 17,000-25,000 people, an odeon, a state agora, public toilets, and monuments to the emperors. Hermodorus is reputed to have written certain laws for the Romans. And Hipponax the poet was from Ephesus; and so were  Parrhasius  the painter and Apelles, and more recently Alexander the orator, surnamed Lychnus. Another alumnus of Ephesus, the philosopher Heraclitus discussed important thoughts on the nature of the universe and humanity. Restoration Ephesus was destroyed by an earthquake in 17 A.D. then rebuilt and enlarged by Tiberius.

The Navajo people are the largest Native American tribe in the United States, now with over 300,000 members. They are native to a large chunk of Southwestern United States, mostly in New Mexico and Arizona, but also partially in Utah and Colorado. It was sometime between 1100 - 1500 A.D. when a distinguishable Navajo culture began to appear. The first Western contact that is known with the Navajo occurred near 1581 - 1583 A.D. However there were some times over the centuries after the Spanish settlement in which the Navajo fought Spanish settlers to retain their land. The Navajo’s first contact with the United States came during the Mexican American War. The area where the Navajo lived was seen as a strategic area for the United States military. Troops were therefore brought to Navajo land to form treaties with them. Both sides more or less ignored these treaties. Navajo groups and New Mexican settlers would often clash. The United States government began mobilizing troops to New Mexico, and proceeded to establish military bases there. This initially established a precedence that the government could take advantage of the Navajo people. For the most part, the Navajo wanted to avoid any conflict, and the United States government chose to exploit this. Challenges faced by ADNOC-Free-Samples for Students-Myassignment

Questions: 1.Write down the case synopsis. 2.Discuss in detail how ERP update could help ADNOC in gaining competitive advantages? 3.With reference to the case study, explain the significance of Information Systems in operating business? 4.What lessons can be learned from system upgrades based on the case study? Answers: 1.The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is the oil company owned by the government of United Arab Emirates (Marjanca, 2010). As per the Journal of Oil and Gas, in 2015, the UAE was announced to have the worlds 7th biggest established reserves of oil at 97.8 billion barrels. Approximately every reserve is placed in Abu Dhabi. In terms of production, ADNOC is known as the 12th largest company of oil in the world (ADNOC, 2017). As per the analysis, it has been said that by production and revenue ADNOC Company is the largest energy company in the world. In upstream, midstream and downstream it comprises 16 subsidiary companies. Umm Al Nar and Ruwais are the two oil refineries in which company operates. In the form of LNG (liquefied natural gas) natural gas is exported by the company. Headquarter of ADNOC is situated in Abu Dhabi. In 2015, Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning 1.2.2.4 was chosen by ADNOC in order to deploy and utilize the platform of the latest technology at the middleware layer and infrastructure. ADNOC has the aim to grow the competencies of the business process for the benefits of the end users and to achieve the UAE smart government vision (Business Chief, 2015). Before implementing ERP company was using SAP so that it can support company in overall business transformation strategy. Due to the aim of getting ahead of the competitors functioning in same industry and fall in the prices of oil, they decided to change their strategies from the top level to lower level. Along with this, it was identified that SAP was costly as compared to ERP. Therefore company implemented new and latest technology i.e. ERP by replacing SAP. ADNOC offshore continuously pursues to add worth to ADNOC group by implementing advanced technologies that add worth to its processes and assignments. These comprise smart wells and stimulations, control systems, brownfield monitoring and artificial islands (ADNOC, 2017). The reasons behind selecting Oracle ERP was that it provides relatively less cost than on-premises substitutes, it is a complete resolution for each part of the current ERP puzzle, and it offers a helping hand into the cloud, etc. (Rimini Street, 2018) In 2013, the Oracle ERP upgrade project was started in which more than 40 technical resources were involved from the IT Division of Abu Dhabi National Oil. Along with this, their partners were also involved in this besides 50 main business users for authenticating and enhancing the procedures grounded in the standardization approach. ADNOC face several challenges during the process of upgrade. Initially it faced the challenge of extracting the information from the system of ERP specifically for the department of finance. This is because of the reason that the data warehouse was generating simple data that cannot be utilized for wide-ranging projects. Additionally, Ease Enterprise Resource Planning incorporation of applications planned for deployment is one more challenge. For instance, getting the country RFID to support in gathering complete details on clients and cars entering ADNOC gas station, comprising fuel types, convenience usage, payment information, capacity, and other services usages like vehicle washes and lubricant changes. The ultimate challenge is to reduce the IT assistance cost and high growing data volumes. The upgraded system was a success for the company because the whole platform was mobile-enabled and modern convenience. ADNOC has adopted the ERP implementation strategy i.e. clearly describe the necessities before taking action. This strategy can be applicable to every type of business as those businesses who do not keep a tight focus on particular procedures and system necessities will face additional cost and time in the implementation of ERP (Compudata, 2016). The culture of ADNOC is defined by the enthusiasm, energy, and unwavering passion of the employees of the company. They are more focused towards inventing new solutions, adopting new technologies, raising the standard, and seizing opportunities across whatever they do. This is the reason behind the successful implementation of the ERP upgrade in the company. 2.A wide system of a Company is ERP which combines with the business's primary applications, comprising every levels and area of an organization. Every application in an ERP suite shares a standard data set which is stored in the main database. The aim of ERP is to offer a backbone for the computing business, combining the major process of management and business in order to offer a view of sky-level. A proper ERP systems implementation helps business in gaining a competitive advantage depending on the company incorporating the ERP system with its own procedures to make it exclusive and the time and cost put in will be balanced by the systems benefits. Moreover, if ADNOC incorporates ERP in human resource, sales, and distribution department then it could help them in easily hiring skilled and experienced people to achieve the sales and distribution target in short time duration. This can result in gaining competitive advantage for the company as hiring skilled labor in the competitive market is a major task. The major advantage of implementing the ERP system in the operation of the company that it decreases the operations, administration, and distribution cost by permitting management to handle operations, delays and prevent disturbances, breakdowns information and assist users in making decisions more quickly. In addition to this, the company can improve the quality of the products that are offered to the customers which lead to customer satisfaction and ultimately the company will be able to acquire large market share. 3.Decreasing the errors of human and increasing the efficiency of work are the important goals of the owner of every company. But it cannot be attained without an outstanding information system which is accomplished by offering the information business requires in small time durations. Investing in the information system is important for every organization, and the reasons are: Organized Data Managing information is very important for the company like ADNOC which is a well-known brand in the market of UAE. With the help of excellent information system, ADNOC is able to organize all the processes properly, able to get fast solutions and making quick decisions in any situation. The management of the company is able to handle complete data and enhance the business processes execution. Information Storing Information systems are suitable when it derives to storing data company needs it in a few years time (Willcocks, 2013). For instance, ADNOC maintains all the details of oil and gas and stores it in a data archive. The data archive can be opened and used by the company later when needed. Maintaining the data or information manually on the hard copies and registers is time-consuming. Along with this searching for any data is also time-consuming therefore ERP upgrades are very good and beneficial decision for ADNOC. 4.From the above case study of system upgrades, it can be learned that whether the company is big or small it has to move and change according to the time. As the time is changing there are many innovations and changes in the technology which is very important to update in the processes of the company. Besides this, implementing new and updated technologies helps in saving a lot of time and cost of the company (Kaglik, 2015). The above analysis reflects that Oracle ERP is very much cost effective as compared to other substitutes available in the market. As per ADNOC Company, it is the complete solution for every problem or puzzle because it works as a helping hand. Further, it has been learned that ERP update can help the company in gaining a competitive advantage because of its efficiency in achieving the goals in short time duration and improving the quality of the product. Jimmy Carter Essays (306 words) - Jimmy Carter,

Jimmy Carter Jimmy Carter Economy can always make or break a president. President Jimmy Carter's was a Democrat whose administration, that lasted from 1977-1981, was burdened with a recessive economy from the beginning. Inflation was rising rapidly due to the worst oil embargo United States history has ever witnessed. All of these factors contributed to the national malaise sweeping over Americans. It was Carter's administration that began the process of deregulation and bureaucratic streamlining in hopes of courting moderate factions. He also expressed a desire to move the Democratic Party close to political middle ground to lessen the great divide. President Carter had many failures as well as attributes when it came to foreign policy. On November 4, 1979, in the United States Embassy in Iran, 52 Americans were seized by students who were angry with the Carter administration for allowing Iran's deposed shah into the United States to seek medical treatment. Carter's failure to negotiate their release and a devastating rescue attempt (in which eight United States Marines died) contributed to the nation's waning confidence in him. As well as the Iran hostage crisis, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan seemed to overwhelm his last two years of his administration, conveying an impression of the United States as weak and feeble. At the cornerstone of his foreign achievements was the accord Carter brokered between Prime Minister Menachem of Israel and President Anwar Sadat, of Egypt, that became known as the Camp David Accords of 1979. Another recognized achievement in foreign affairs was the signing of the Panama Canal Treaty in 1978. Though faced with an unstable economy, Carter succeeded in many other tasks. He managed to become an avid supporter of global peace and human rights. He raised $27 million to build The Carter Center, which envisioned ?conflict resolution? which promoted global peace and human rights.

Amtrak Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Amtrak - Essay Example The construction of the Interstate Highway System greatly enhanced the appeal of road transportation, both for passengers and freight. Air travel became the dominant public carrier mode for intercity passenger travel. In addition, the national government found itself in the passenger train business (Adrian, 1977). Early in U.S. history, passenger travel was often difficult and uncomfortable. With the coming of the railroads, people gained the ability to travel farther and faster than most had ever imagined. Although the early passenger trains were not very comfortable, track and equipment gradually improved. The railroads helped to link different sections of the country and speeded the settlement of the western United States. The railroads were among the first big businesses in the United States, and major railroad executives became celebrities (Adrian, 1986). By 1900, a traveler on a first-class train could expect to find good food, a library, a barbershop, and the company of prominent individuals from the worlds of business, politics, and entertainment. The passenger train for a time appeared to occupy a secure place in society (Beebe, 1976). Any organization must strike a balance between stability and change, and transportation organizations are no exception. Changing public preferences, new technologies, population movements, and rising or falling prices of supplies may force an organization to make drastic changes in many aspects of its operations. Although transportation organizations must change at times to keep pace with shifting external conditions and to manage internal pressures, a degree of organizational stability is essential. For example, transportation systems require substantial public and private investment in fixed facilities, vehicles, and personnel training. A high degree of instability risks rendering those investments irrelevant or wasteful.( Bowersox,1989) Amtrak: Amtrak has faced considerable difficulties in trying to achieve the desired balance of stability and change needed to maintain credibility as a transportation mode. Beginning with uncertain and conflicting goals, the Amtrak system seemed to be destined for chaos rather than predictability. Repeated attacks by the Reagan administration, conservatives in Congress, and bus companies seemed to foretell large cutbacks or even termination. Moreover, the nation's passenger train system was in relatively poor condition at the time of Amtrak's creation; maintaining the conditions that existed in 1971 would hardly give the system credibility. (Amtrak, 1996) Nonetheless, the Amtrak system has managed to achieve a substantial degree of stability, coupled with significant change - much of it in the nature of improvement. The political turmoil surrounding Amtrak stands in stark contrast to the substantial operational consistency and improvement that the system has achieved. Amtrak Logistic and supply chain Route: One of the fundamental features of any transportation system is its overall reach, the extent of its routes, the number of access points available on those routes, and the utilization of the routes. A system that experiences rapid expansion of its overall reach is likely to be faced with challenges. Quick expansion brings

Interaction Theories Essay Example for Free

Interaction Theories Essay A. Compare and contrast two of the models or theories presented in this chapter considering their usefulness in practice, research, education and administration. For the purposes of this discussion, I have selected King’s Theory of Goal Attainment and Peplau’s Theory of Interpersonal Relations. On a broad perspective, both theories aim at explaining the interaction processes that happen between a nurse and her patient. Imogene King’s basic assumption of her theory is that the nurse and the client communicate information, set goals mutually, and act to attain those goals. The same can actually be said with Peplau’s theory wherein she states that nursing is an interpersonal process because it involves interaction between two or more individuals with a common goal, the attainment of which is achieved through the use of a series of steps, and that the nurse and patient work together so both become mature and knowledgeable in the process. A lot of similarities can be seen from both works as they try to explain the nursing process in a nurse-patient interaction level. see fig. 1) The concepts of person, health, environment and nursing are recurring themes on both theories as they attempt to integrate it with each of their own interaction models. The deviation between the two theories occur where the focus of their study lie in the current nursing practice. King focused on the major concept of interacting systems: Personal, interpersonal and social systems, and how the accuracy of determining which system is most applicable would lead to eventual tra nsaction. Because of the severity of her condition, the emergency room nurses attending for this particular patient immediately began taking actions to stabilize her condition, such as securing an IV line, drawing blood for labs, applying oxygen and doing an ECG all at the same time. When asked by a nurse to take her ordered dose of aspirin the patient fearfully verbalized, â€Å"What are you doing to me? † Soon after, when the patient’s condition did not significantly improve but got worse, the physician advised the husband that patient be brought to the cardiac catheterization laboratory for an angiogram. The client was adamant that she did not want to take drastic measures, but the husband indicated that he wanted whatever was necessary to improve his wife’s condition. This is an excellent example of a client losing the sense of self-hood. In regard to the concept of self, King (1981) stated â€Å"If nurses and other professionals interact with patients or clients as human beings, and let the individuals be themselves, nurses and patients would help each other grow in self-awareness and in understanding of human behavior, especially in stressful life experiences. † In an environment that requires one to be reactive and responsive, clients often perceive nurses as being too busy or too hurried. King (1981) encouraged nurses to be aware of how they present themselves to their clients because the manner in which nurses enter a client’s room sets the tone for the entire encounter. Poor communication skills lead to poor transactions and interactions between the nurse and the client. Poor communication skills also affect goal setting and goal attainment (Williams, 2001). It is solely because of this perception that proper â€Å"scripting† with the patients has been constantly reiterated to all nursing personnel and including even the support staff. In stark contrast with the example presented above, here is a situation where King’s Theory of Goal Attainment was used in the emergency room setting. Patient ST, a 32-year old male trauma patient who went to the emergency room due to a traumatic amputation of an arm secondary to a motor vehicle accident. The assessment phase of the nursing process can take in the concepts associated with the personal system. Once the patient has been hemodynamically stabilized, the nurse’s attention is now focused on assisting the patient cope with the feelings of loss, separation and anger that he is experiencing. The patient’s feelings of perception, self body image, growth and development, time and space must be considered after doing the primary survey of airway, breathing and circulation. In fact, this is even specified in my institution’s â€Å"Emergency Room Nursing Database† in its attempts to fulfill the JCI requirements in documentation. Attempting to restore the patient’s self-esteem in the light of the traumatic loss is a mutually established goal between the nurse and the client. It is also important for the nurse to realize that the patient’s perceptual field is narrowed because of the pain and emotion that he is currently experiencing. King’s theory highlights the importance of the participation of the individuals in decision making and deals with the choices, alternatives, and outcomes of nursing care. The theory offers insight into the nurses’ interactions with the individuals and groups within the environment (Williams, 2001). Element of the theory of Imogene King is usually applied specifically in interpersonal and social systems. More often than not, the mode of interaction being used in the emergency department is a dyad (2 people interacting), where the perception of a patient is changed because of a communication that takes place providing education to a patient with knowledge deficit. Such an example occurs in ensuring a patient and its significant others’ compliance; if the patient does not understand the importance of a certain intervention or medication, cooperation and adherence will be very difficult to achieve. But once the nurse educates them with proper nurse-patient interaction and therapeutic communication, compliance and adherence to medical regimen can be achieved. King’s Goal Attainment Theory (Client-Centered Theory) is indeed what we are practicing in the daily routine of the hospital and in any other clinical setting. Giving the patient the pertinent information of what is going to happen or what is happening will lessen the patient’s anxiety that contributes to tachycardia, restlessness and give them a sense of control of the situation.

The Immigrant Experience: The Anguish of Becoming American Essay

The Immigrant Experience: The Anguish of Becoming American Immigration from the Early 1990's still affects America today. The people who came to America from different countries brought their traditions, their families, and their culture. These three things stuck with them through thick and thin and are still thriving parts of what America is today. Many immigrants came with literally nothing in their pockets and had to work their way to success. The Immigrant Experience by Thomas Wheeler tells the story of nine different immigrants' trials and tribulations of coming and living in America. Each immigrant went through different experiences of becoming American but they also had their similarities. Four things that attributed to the assimilation of the immigrants are: language, money, religion, and ambition. Each immigrant experienced their individual trials, but they still all had several similarities. Almost all of the immigrants in this book came to America without being able to speak English, except for the immigrant from London. Alan Pryce-Jones came to America able to speak English and this put him at an advantage over the other immigrants because he could communicate with Americans. Also, he came to America after he established his writing in Europe. He came with money and wisdom which set him far above the other immigrants. The immigrants who couldn't speak English had to take classes and settle for low paying jobs because they could not communicate with their bosses. If they weren't working for someone else, they entrepreneured their own business. William Alfred, the Irish immigrant, was raised by a grandmother who owned her own business. This made it a little easier for him to find a job, and bring in money. J... ...America and living here made them American. But, they all brought over their own traditions and culture that still affect families today. Americans all have the outer candy coatings, but each peanut inside is different. The peanuts make the M & M's what they are. The outer appearance is the same but the inward structure is not. The peanuts do not affect the way the M & M looks but they sure do affect the way they taste. Next time you go to eat an M & M think about what America is. Is it a group of people who are all the same and have conformed to each other so that you cannot distinguish one from another? Or is America like a bowl of peanut M & M's where you can see how every one is similar but each individual is different on the inside? They may look American. They may act American. They may very well be American, but they cannot neglect their ancestry roots.

American Muslims Influence And Media Portrayal Post - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1521 Downloads: 9 Date added: 2019/10/31 Category History Essay Level High school Tags: 9/11 Essay Did you like this example? America is one of the most racially and religiously diverse countries in the world. People with different ethnical and religious backgrounds have lived in America for centuries. Its unclear when the first Muslims arrived in the United States, but their influence on the American Culture isnt going to be un-noticed. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "American Muslims Influence And Media Portrayal Post" essay for you Create order As communities migrate from one place to another, they take their culture, values, and traditions with them. These same norms can be applied to the migration of Muslims from the Middle-East to the United States such as slaves coming from Africa, Arabs coming to the United States and settling here. They all brought their tradition with them. Times had been tough on the community as their faith had been questioned over numerous periods of time, whether it was for the slaves coming from Africa to keep the religion alive, or after the attacks of 9/11 on the World Trade Center. The major event that changed the lifestyles, judgement, and portrayal of Muslims in America was attacks on Twin Towers of World Trade Centre on Sept 11, 2001. Even though these attacks were carried out by few extreme minded individuals who were linked to terrorist group al-Qaeda, but the storm of hate, prejudice was experienced by the whole Muslim community that lived here in the United States. Muslim in the U.S. were Americans the day before attacks but all of a sudden they became terrorists, anti-Americans the day after the attacks. Muslim Americans have since thrived and silenced all the stereotypes against them, and the belligerence act of Islamophobia. Americans are suspicious of Islamic beliefs and motives which creates widespread hostility towards their faith. Facing discrimination throughout the country and despite heightened anxiety around their place in U.S. culture, their experiences largely mirror those of other religious groups. Even current President of United States Donald Trump has sign Executive Order 13769 also known as the Muslim Travel ban, which shamefully attempts to ban migrants and refugees from seven Muslim countri es. Trumps Travel Ban aims to keep Muslims out of America but it would be impossible to take the America out of Muslims.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Mainstream media has one of the largest impacts on todays world and how societies can perceive people as the other. The media has been used to invoke hatred towards Muslims in America. Portrayal of Muslims in America has been negative mainly because of two things one being their faith but also people who come from the Middle East. The media has focused on presenting Muslims in a centric manner by associating the word terrorist with Muslims; while the historic context and perspectives that played behind the attacks are not mentioned in the influence on the individuals decision to perform such an act. Media start to debate if Islam justifies violence to achieve something. And because of the negativity spread by the media, American Muslims citizenship, patriotism, and devotion to this country are constantly questioned. Political cartoons depicting a Muslim persons outfit was aimed to trigger suspicion and enforces a negative perception of Muslim people.   When discussing the fear mongering ways of the media on the public, one cannot leave Hollywood behind. Hollywood may have invoked more islamophobia and xenophobia in individuals than President Trump may have done.   Hollywood has made Americans associate Islam with terrorism through inaccurate representation. Television showtime Sleeper Cell came with a tagline Friends. Neighbors. Husbands. Terrorists, and Homeland, where the mere act of a man praying toward Mecca signaled foreboding events. If there are few good Muslims shown in the shows, it doesnt come without a twist. In shows, Sayid on Lost or twins *Nimah and Raina of Quantico are defined by a connection to Saddams Republican Guard or terror groups. Muslim representation in movies, TV shows, and even news is that Muslims in American art and media are represented as being violent, terrorist, and intolerant.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Despite such negative representation, religious profiling, and constant questioning of their faith and loyalty, American Muslims have achieved a lot in educating Americans about Islam, and how it promotes peace among communities, and how few evil minds use religion to carry out their heinous acts. Comedians like Chris Rock, Paul Mooney, Russell Peters, Margaret Cho, and Dave Chappelle are a few examples of intellectuals who challenge the stereotypes and common-sense beliefs held about their respective ethnic groups. The use of comedy to highlight injustices experienced by the Muslim community is common among all of the recent Arab and Muslim American comics. Muslim comedians believe that distrust and fear such as one poll found out that 39% of Americans admit to having feelings of prejudice against Muslims living in the US and they may support an initiative to have Muslims carry around special ID cards, concerns like Muslims in America are sympathetic to groups like al-Qaeda, etc. can be combated through comedy (Amarasingam). As Dean Obeidallah speaks of 9/11 events, he says that those events changed the way he was viewed in the country.   Another comedian, Maz Jobrani, Iranian-born comedian and actor, also takes a dig at how Muslims are portrayed in the media. He notes, every time they show us on T.V, they always show the crazy guy burning the flag going like Death to America, and its always that. Media doesnt show any other role of Muslims besides being violent, anti-American. They depict Muslims and Islamic countries as hotbeds of fanaticism, full of Muslim men who enslave their wives, movies such as Not Without My Daughter serve to warn American women about the dangers of inter-racial marriage, which is totally mis-representation of the Islamic religion. Its true that in every religion there are people who are willing to connect and relate with other religions, and also there are people who take the religion very extremely by manipulating and using the religion according to their own belief/ mind set. Actions from such people do no reflect the belief system of entire religion. There are lot of American Muslims who achieved fame in American art and Culture such as Hasan Minhaj, Aziz Ansari are few of the outspoken American Muslims taking representation of Muslims in America to positive and friendly level. In a New York Times op-ed, Why Trump Makes Me Scared for My Family, Aziz wrote that people in American culture associate Muslim less with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or the kid who left the boy band One Direction than with a scary terrorist character from Homeland or some monster from the news. He also adds that the most constructive way to approach the problem is to show Muslim people being normal on TV.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Even women artists have also came forward to shatter the stereotypes about Muslims not only in the United States, but also rest of the world. One of the famous artists Shahzia Sikander, had solo show at Brent Sikkema Gallery in New York in 2003. Shahzia in her work named Utopia, in the post 9/11 context tries to think about the world in different ways, including taking on icons like American flag and inflecting it with her own meaning. Utopia, help better situate the cultural divide and argue for seeing cultural reading not as mutually exclusive but necessary for seeing any work of art. In such images, times like 9/11 are being created in the ways various histories are being retold through art.   Larita Dixon, in her painting of Hijabis describe that, in this work, she wanted to show the fun side of Muslims, her aim is to show people that Muslims are just like everyone else. Another artist Kelly Izdihar Crosby, in her painting of Tapestry of Sisterhood, states that she is touched by the diversity of Islamic global community and thats the reason she created a montage of Muslim women wearing turbans, hijabs, wraps and no hijab. The reason behind the painting was that she wanted to show the beauty and diversity of Muslim women in terms of how they outwardly reflect their faith. The mainstream image of Muslim women is one dimensions, and this piece offers the viewer an alternative to that monolithic stereotype towards Muslim woman. Female Muslim comedians such as Tissa Hami had to deal with issues surrounding the hijab. She often starts off wearing the hijab and half way through her act she removes it, to illustrate that she is same women regardless of what she wears on her head. This act has much bigger impact which makes a point on larger context. She wants to prove that no all veiled Muslim women are silent or oppressed or terrorist. A veiled woman isnt someone to fear from, because no matter she wears hijab or not, she is the same person.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   At the end, one way or the other, American media must change how they portray Muslim Americans. Muslim Americans have same rights and freedoms as every other citizen of this country does, regardless of their ethnicity, religion and race. Acts carried out by few individuals does not reflect the ideology of the whole community or religion. In order to reduce violence, stereotypes, and prejudice among communities, media needs to portray every individual, community as same, rather than picking on one religion to expand the hate crime against the religion.
